Denisova: We Are Ready To Exchange 23 Russians For Ukrainian Prisoners

KIEV, Ukraine -- The Ukrainian side is ready to exchange 23 Russian citizens convicted in Ukraine for 23 Ukrainians imprisoned in Russia for political reasons.

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova said this at a press briefing in Moscow on June 29, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We are ready to take the detained citizens back under an extradition procedure. The Russian Federation refuses extradition. We try to take them back through political arrangements. We are ready to transfer 23 Russians convicted and sentenced in Ukraine for plotting terror attacks and conducting espionage and armed hostilities for 23 Ukrainians held in Russian prisons," Denisova said.

As reported earlier, about 70 Ukrainian political prisoners are held in Russia and in the territory of the occupied Crimea, including Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison on trumped-up espionage charges.
