Ukraine Recruiting Volunteers For Euro 2012

KIEV, Ukraine -- The recruitment of volunteers for Euro 2012 soccer championship has started here on Tuesday.

The program will last till September 30.

During this time people who want to be volunteers for the Tournament will have a chance to submit an application to the UEFA through its official site.

The knowledge of foreign languages is the main requirement for candidates. Organizers expect to receive up to six applications for every available job.

"To be a volunteer is a chance for me to raise my level of foreign languages, the level of communication with language carriers," Natalia Stegney, a linguist with a profound study of French and English, told Xinhua.

Alexander Andreychuk said that he decided to be a volunteer because he is a soccer fan.

"I've never been to any European Soccer Championship before. So I'm interested to become a small part of the competition. I will do my best to help its guests to feel themselves comfortable here," he said.

Interviews with the applicants are scheduled for mid-autumn.

In December 2011, the candidates for volunteers should receive confirmation of their participation.

In the spring of 2012 in Ukraine and Poland preparatory courses will take place.

With over million fans estimated to come to Ukraine and Poland in June 2012, organizers are planning to train about 12,000 volunteers in such work as tour guide, media operation, security and medical service.

The organizers say that probably 2/3 of volunteers will be women, and over 80 percent will be students.
