The EU has noted problems in some areas in Ukraine, in particular the violations of freedom of speech and democracy, the diplomat said in an interview with Channel 5 on Friday.

He also noted "the situation with the local elections."

According to Teixeira, all these issues have been the subject of a very sincere dialogue between the EU and Ukraine.

The diplomat said Brussels would like to see the progress in these issues this year and for years to come.

Teixeira stressed the importance of the constitutional process in Ukraine. He recalled that this issue was identified as a priority more than five years ago.

The EU ambassador pointed to the need for transparent elections, noting that next elections in Ukraine should be conducted properly.

Teixeira said that the transparency of the electoral process will give people a better sense of democracy in this process.
