Ukrainian Ski Jumper Injured In Training Crash

WHISTLER, British Columbia -- Ukrainian ski jumper Vitaliy Shumbarets has been taken to a hospital after crashing during training at Whistler Olympic Park.

Ukraine's Vitaliy Shumbarets crashes onto the Olympic rings after losing control during an attempt at a ski jumping training session from the large hill at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010.

Organizers say Shumbarets did not appear to be seriously injured, but was momentarily unconscious and was airlifted out of the ski jump venue.

Shumbarets lost control midway through his training jump on the large hill Sunday and landed face forward on the snow before tumbling down the slope.

Shumbarets finished 45th in the normal hill at the Vancouver Olympics and did not qualify for the large hill event.

The team event is Monday, but Ukraine does not have enough jumpers to enter the four-man competition.
