Obama To Meet Yanukovych Next Week

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. President Barack Obama and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych will meet on April 12 in Washington, the first meeting since Yanukovych was elected as the president in February, said the White House on Saturday.

According to the White House, Obama and Yanukovych are expected to discuss "a broad range of issues of mutual concern," including nuclear non-proliferation, addressing the impacts of the global economic crisis, energy security and defense cooperation.

The two countries "enjoy strong bilateral relations and are working together through the Strategic partnership Commission to advance our common agenda," said the White House.

The United States officially recognized the independence of Ukraine in December 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The Orange Revolution in Ukraine has led to closer relations between Kiev and Washington.

By signing the Charter on Strategic Partnership with Ukraine in December 2008, the United States vows to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its "Euro- Atlantic aspirations and integration into the institutions of the Euro-Atlantic."

Russia has expressed strong objections to the U.S.-backed efforts to letting Ukraine join the NATO military alliance. Early in March, Yanukovych made his first visit as the president to Moscow and promised a "sharp turn" in the Ukraine-Russia relations.

OBAMA TO MEET YANUKOVICH--UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

During Yuschenkos time in office the U.S. despite financially supporting Ukraine did little diplomatically to encourage stronger relationships with the former member of the Soviet Union.

Obama and the U.S. are using this as a chance to try and sway Yanukovich towards the U.S. and this is partly because of the recently announced and soon to be rejected START TREATY which is for all intensive purposes cosmetic.
The U.S. wants stronger connections with Moscow and the
KREMLIN SO THEY ARE USING UKRAINE AS THEIR GO BETWEEN.!

I HOPE YANUKOVICH DOES NOT GO FOR IT--NOT EVEN FOR MONEY FROM THE I.M.F.
..I am an American journalist but even I can smell this one.
..It is not what it is expected to be...a ploy!

Where was Obama before the recent Ukraine election--Turkey and other places.
What in the heck has Turkey done for the Ukraine, the U.S. or other east Euroepan countries lately???..Take their money and don't fight like Ukranians...!!
..Personalloy I hope he puts Obama and the U.S. face in their desert and lets them know he is UKRAINE and Ukraine does not get used as a stupid go between and the Russians well understand.

As for the START agreeement it will be rejected by the DUMA and the U.S. Senate and Putin is at least partly correct--The U.S. does not need a missle system that close to the borders of Russia or have military experts forgotten how fast missles, especially ICBM missles can travel-even from Scandavia or western Europe.
No.I hope Yanujovich lets OBama know he is not as weak as Medvedev and as strong as Putin..This comes from an American journalist who knows how the diplomaic angles work..especiaslly RUSSO-Ukraine and U.S. relations.
GOOD LUCK PRESIDENT YANUKOVICH and Let them know Ukraine is NOT a pushover...UKRAINE IS STRONG AND I HOPE IT STAYS THAT WAY.

FROM AN AMERICAN JOURNALIST WHO HAS COVERED EXTENSIVELY RUSSO-UKRAINE AND U.S. inmternational relations Hoping Yanu remains strong.Wes Rodgers patriotstv.com west-patriot@msn.com
